INYEON – The Thread of Destiny

In South Korea, the word inyeon (인연) refers to the bond between two people and the emotional connection between them.
The word refers to a bond, a meaningful connection between two people whose paths eventually cross one day or another.
In South Korea, we say that each person is the sum of his or her past and future encounters.
These encounters can be major, as with your partner, or insignificant, like someone you bump into in the street.
They are all a matter of destiny, and play a role in our lives.

Thirteen years ago, our paths crossed for the first time in the “les reflets du désordre” series.
Not only did this encounter give rise to magnificent, timeless images, it also led to the creation of a shared universe.
There were several meetings, several sessions, several movements. Sometimes far apart, sometimes very close together.
We took turns waiting for each other on a station platform. And each time at a different station.

Some might think that this book is a collection of images of an artist with his muse. That would be reductive.
This book is the culmination of ideas shared by two free spirits who, during each session, united their need to create images.
To show, through the medium of photography, their commonalities and differences, and to bring them together in an attempt to write a story that belongs only to the two of them.

In this book, we’ll try to print out the most beautiful images to come out of these bubbling sessions and finally share them.
Some of them have already made the rounds on social networks, but there are still so many unpublished images stuck in our hard drives, just waiting for this book to set them free.
